Research Nurse Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI)

Background:
The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is a Ugandan not-for-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen health systems in Africa, with strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development. IDI has six operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research, Laboratory services (including the CAP-certified IDI Core Lab & Translational Lab), Global Health Security and Health
System Strengthening.
The AFI surveillance is a programmatic surveillance, non-research, activity incorporated into the
NISS, initially encompassing six of the 17 regional referral hospitals in the inaugural NISS framework. This program aims to determine the aetiological agents of AFI in Uganda and their epidemic potential, determining their distribution and periodicity, and establishing capabilities for rapid detection, identification, and response
In order to successfully, implement this, IDI is looking for a competent and experienced individual to fill the position below:

General summary:
The incumbent will serve as Research nurse for the AFI Surveillance program. The Research
Nurse will work with the rest of the team to identify and recruit study participants according to the approved protocol and GCP. This position will be based in Jinja.

Key Responsibilities:
• Recruitment of study participants
• Taking Medical History and vitals of study participants
• Administer all study procedures like sample collection, data collection and entry, patient follow-up and treatment to patients recruited into the study as guided by the protocol and in accordance to set standards of Good Clinical Practice
• Administering Informed Consent
• Compliance with study procedures and GCP standards
• Ensure participant safety and confidentiality.
• Knowledgeable of applicable Standard Operating Procedures.
• Complete, timely and accurate documentation of all activities as per SOPs, and study protocols
Update of project logs, CRFs and other documents.
Mentorship of all supporting staff, ensuring good clinical practice is maintained.
• Understand IPC principles
• Joining external calls where required to help support the clinical team
• Any other duties as directed by the immediate supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience:
• Highly organized, detail oriented and self-motivated.
• Ability to work on own initiative.
• Ability to multi task.
• Be flexible.
• Strict observance of agreed upon timelines/deadlines.
• Good interpersonal/communication skills
• Respects authority and commands respect
• Registration with nursing and midwifery council
• Recent clinical experience working as a clinical care essential
• Able to carry out clinical care, assessing patients clinically and carrying out usual clinical procedures.
• To be able to carry out usual inpatient care while wearing full PPE.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing
• Experience or knowledgeable in the IPC
• At least 2 years of clinical research experience
