English for Adult Team Leader The Refugee Law Project (RLP)

The English for Adult Team Leader is responsible for rolling out RLP’s Speak Your Rights curriculum to non-English speaking refugees, hosts, and other victims of forced migration to enable them to advocate for their rights and access services and manage the learner’s social enterprise projects and vocational trainings. Besides direct teaching, the EFA Team Leader shall work with responsible staff to advance the livelihood and SRHR activities of RLP, specifically at their respective project districts.
Key Performance Areas KPA1: Facilitation Coordination
Support in the recruitment/registration of refugees to the EFA Programme in the specific area of operation.
• Coordinate and guide the development and preparation of lesson plans assigned to fit within the specified study period and relevant learning protocols and guidelines.
• Ensure timely and smooth English for Adult Learners orientation is conducted.
• Oversee the teaching of adult learners functional English, SRHR, Mental Health, Livelihoods, Transitional Justice, numerical and practical skills to help them in running their day-to-day affairs
Facilitate classes for designated EFA level assigned by Field Office Coordinator through the Project Manager
• Hold monthly meetings with class leaders in respective classes to check on the lessons extended to learners and ensure that classes are run in a systematic manner and order
• Oversee the organisation of English for Adults class and inter-Centre debates for the learners to develop confidence in the language taught through educational arguments;
Oversee the enrolment of EFA learners for further vocational trainings
• Oversee the coordination and mobilisation of communities for community dialogue meetings

KPA2: Assessment
• Guide the Facilitators on executing assignments to learners in time and making sure that the given assignments are marked and results handed over to the learners on time
• Review the assessment results and advise on appropriate strategies for various performance and oversee the organisation of graduation events for the final level
Organise annual poetry, writing and painting competitions on key social problems
• In consultation with the Livelihood Officer, facilitate English for Adult learner’s social enterprise projects

KPA3: Documentation and Reporting
• Ensure that EFA registers are up to date with all adjustments in specific periods
• Develop training curricula, instructor manuals, learner guides, and other materials and/or utilise purchased training programs that meet identified learning goals
• Coordinate with fellow EFA Team Leaders in other project sites on curriculum development, analysis, review, and reporting.
• Manage the arrangement and organisation of materials for community dialogue and trainings.
• Ensure that all EFA materials are filed in a way that can make them easily accessible to users
Complete all online and offline data-capturing tools and ensure that they are up-to-date at all times
• Ensure that all information disseminated to learners is given in the proper manner and in the languages understood by the learners
• Conduct quarterly outcome mapping exercises for current and former EFA learners
• Attend in-house and office-of-office meetings/workshops whenever requested
• Participate in district sector meetings on education, and provide timely reports and key emerging issues therein.
• Produce quarterly statistical and analytical narrative reports on the state of adult learning of RLP and the district

KPA 6: Administrative/Managerial
• Provide direct line management to EFA Facilitators
• Lead the EFA team in the preparation of work plans
Consolidate individual reports into a joint report for the EFA team and share them with the Field Office Coordinator
• Compile and submit sector reports to FOC on quarterly, bi-annual and annual reports
• Ensure appropriate workload for the team
• Liaise with the Human Resources unit in conducting performance appraisals and ensure competency and training gaps are addressed
• Support the Human Resources unit in ensuring that all institutional policies are adhered to and that any anomalies are reported timely and professionally

Job Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Adult and Community Education, Education (Secondary)
• Minimum of three years’ experience in facilitating professional adult learning
• Possession of a valid driving permit (Class A) is a MUST
• Demonstrated experience managing other facilitators
• Strong classroom management skills
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Knowledge of adult learners and alternative educational methods and ability to apply these methods for adult, at-risk teens and multi-cultural forced migrants
• Ability to facilitate classes of diverse abilities and backgrounds and overcome barriers to success in a multi-level class
Ability to build a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
• Ability to relate well to different groups of learners of different ages and ability levels.
• Must be computer literate and able to use a variety of audio-visual equipment
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and through correct written grammar and usage
• Must have a strong desire to work with people from a broad range of backgrounds, and a deep understanding of forced migration issues
• Team player who can collaborate with colleagues
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Enthusiasm for the subject material that will foster a love of learning by students.
• Self-motivated, versatile and adaptable to different cultures and people
