Kiira Motors Corporation or KMC is a State Enterprise in Uganda established to champion the Development of the Domestic Automotive Value Chain for job and wealth creation.

 

Job Summary:   The Senior Legal Officer is responsible for providing legal advice and opinions and drafting legal documents. The Senior Legal Officer shall also assist in preparing the work plans and budgets of the Legal Division.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide Legal and Policy Advice: Provide prompt commercial, practical legal advice to Kiira Motors Corporation’s various business lines to facilitate, improve and strengthen operational decision-making through integration of legal analysis as part of overall business development process.
  • Contract Management: Responsible for contracts and commercial agreements, finance, governance, real estate, intellectual property, employment and litigation/adversarial proceedings and Directs Outsourced counsel as needed.
  • Representation and Due Diligence: Represent Kiira Motors Corporation’s legal interests and provide assurance of strong corporate governance and general legal housekeeping before investors, partners and co-partners, regulatory agencies, legislative bodies and auditors.
  • Compliance and Risk Management; Identify current and upcoming legal, regulatory and related compliance risk and determine how Kiira Motors Corporation can offer its products and services in various jurisdictions while operating in compliance with local laws and regulations.
  • Administration and Management: Participate in management of the activities within the Department by providing technical guidance, project management and leadership and performance monitoring.
  • Skilling and Capacity Development: Lead, mentor, develop, coach, train and appraise subordinates and peers to help them be successful in their roles and to progress in their skills and abilities.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Develop and implement Monthly Work Plans necessary for executing the above duties and responsibilities and Performance Reports detailing all Compliance and Risk Management aspects of the company.
  • Any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree (Honors) in Law from a Recognized Institution.
  • Must be enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda with a Valid Certificate of Practice.
  • Master’s Degree in Law (LLB), Business Administration (MBA) or in a Related Field from a Recognized Institution is an Added Advantage.
  • The applicant should have General Working Experience of at least Three (3) years. The applicant should have served as a Legal Officer or related field in a reputable organization for at least Two (2) years.

  • Knowledge of Corporate Governance Principles and Practices
  • Knowledge of Legal Research Skills and Techniques
  • Knowledge of Court Procedures and Practices and of Rules of Evidence
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and ERP Systems
