Regional Programme Associate The Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA)

The Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) is a coalition of civil society organizations from Sudan, South-Sudan, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Somaliland, Uganda, and Kenya. Founded in 1995, the organization advocates for social change and gender equality in the Horn of Africa and works specifically on protecting women’s human rights, promoting women access to justice, supporting economic empowerment, and activating women’s political participation. POSITION SUMMARY
The Regional Programme Associate (RPA) will collaborate with the Regional Projects Coordinator (RPC) in managing a diverse portfolio of projects, partners, networks/coalitions, and associated activities. The RPA’s role extends to refining SIHA’s strategic approach and ensuring its effective execution. This multifaceted position entails supporting and coordinating the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of SIHA Projects across countries where SIHA operates while also providing invaluable assistance to staff and partners involved in program implementation.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Working in close collaboration with SIHA staff and under the supervision of the Regional Consortium Coordinator, the RPA will:
1. Collaborate with SIHA Country Office staff to ensure the high-quality execution of activities. This includes adherence to donor and SIHA regulations, as well as accountability to target groups.
Facilitate effective coordination among finance and support teams across SIHA country offices, donors, and stakeholders to advance project objectives. This involves processing budget requests, submitting financial accountabilities, and other related tasks.
Work alongside project staff to assist in crafting work plans, financial and narrative reports, working papers, terms of reference, and presentations.
4. Support the initiation of research, articles, or other documents to showcase and promote program achievements, ensuring the highest quality of outputs.
Collaborate with the RPC to provide regular updates to the management team on the status of program implementation. Formulate recommendations based on findings to enhance program effectiveness.
6. Ensure visibility of project implementation and coordinate with staff and partners for regular updates. Ensure effective communication and information sharing.
Collaborate closely with the Regional Advocacy and Communications team to plan and facilitate the execution of advocacy and communication activities.
8. Organize periodic meetings with program staff to facilitate discussions and track program progress against the plan. Record and follow up on action points.
9. Provide administrative and logistical support as required for program coordination.
10. Ensure strict compliance with SIHA policies, guidelines, and procedures.
11. Act as an external representative on behalf of SIHA.
12. The RPA may be assigned other tasks as directed by the Supervisor or Management.

CORE EXPERIENCE
• Work experiences of at least 3-4 years on women’s rights, gender equality advocacy, and coordination.
• Understanding of the current Horn of Africa context, particularly in reference to challenges facing women and girls in terms of access to justice, human security, upholding of human rights, and social and economic well-being.
• Sense of creativity and interest in exploring the links between grassroots activists (local scale) and broader human and women’s rights initiatives (international/global scale), with an ability to gauge how best the former can inform and guide the latter.
• Familiarity with regional and international human rights advocacy platforms.
• Firm experience and knowledge of project/program management and critical analysis of program and advocacy outcomes to inform further engagement.
• Excellent writing and communication skills in English.
• A strong sense of initiative and ability to manage a significant workload.

Education requirement
• Graduate degree focusing on International Human Rights, Law, Gender studies, International Relations, Humanitarian Aid, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field.
