Job Summary:   The Chief Technology Information Officer will identify, implement and sustain a global; standard; Network infrastructure and IT systems through continuous improvement and new technology insertion as required to support strategic commercial growth. To take full accountability for the Network and IT function in operation, architecture, security and future network engineering.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop the Technology and Security Strategy and drive innovation to ensure the competitive positioning of the company.
  • Align Technology platforms for Network and IT to support the revenue streams of the Company.
  • Coach and mentor direct reports to ensure staff motivation is high to achieve high performance areas.
  • Ensure skill transfer for staff development, motivation and business continuity.
  • Guide and direct suppliers and third parties in achieving Opco objectives.
  • Set goals and objectives for direct reports, monitor progress and maintain motivation.
  • Set up an appropriate structure to meet departmental management objectives.
  • Set up/ participate in adhoc and operational meetings.
  • Review and identify key risks, issues and dependencies and set mitigation actions.
  • Ensure effective execution of day to day operations and resolve operational issues.
  • Develop the Strategy for Technology function in MTN Uganda in line with best global best practice to ensure that the Company is viable both internally and externally as a social and financial entity.
  • Ensure the effective deployment, operational performance and maintenance of the Company’s Radio networks, switching systems, charging, billing, IT and VAS systems, RF Transmission systems and fibre network to satisfy the telecommunication needs of the target subscriber.
  • Ensure the Network quality through the deployment of new and advanced optimization techniques.
  • Provide Strategic direction, including process, policies and procedures in the context of the Group Technology Information and Service deliver
  • systems and Strategy and align to the overall MTN Group Strategy.
  • Ensure Technology function’s alignment with the business Plan objectives in order to effectively drive the overall Business and Group objectives.
  • Prepare, monitor and control the annual departmental budget to ensure expenditure is in line with the business plan.
  • Research and analyse technology trends and assist in the development of the MTN technology Strategy and standards to drive business value.
  • Capex and investment governance in in the network and IT systems areas through active participation in Capital Steering committees.
  • Develop and implement information security strategies and processes while complying with laws and regulations within a rapidly expanding IT and network landscape.
  • Business planning and accountability for the financial viability of the division.
  • Ensure procurement procedures are accurately and timeously followed.
  • Develop and maintain effective processes to ensure an effective an effective interface to customer service departments, marketing, sales and finance departments.
  • Ensure excellent network quality that meets and exceeds pre-agreed service standards in the following areas.
  • Ensure reduction of expenditure via sharing of infrastructure and services, outsourcing of services and more effective use of existing assets.
  • Ensure standardization of network technology, including evolution path as well as standardized group architecture, toolkits, templates and
  • ensure standardized processes for implementation and maintenance.
  • Manage suppliers and ensure effective delivery and cost-effective arrangements staff development, motivation and business continuity.
  • Ensure the Managed Services providers performance as defined in the SLA’s and standards.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate for the MTN Uganda job must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / Telecoms Engineering.
  • MBA
  • At least ten to fifteen years of experience in a broad range of Telecommunications and commercial environments
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Senior Management position.
  • Strong understanding of market trends, emerging technologies, and disruptive business models in the telecom industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional collaboration and lead teams toward successful outcomes.
  • Project management expertise with a focus on delivering results on time and within budget.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and using insights to inform strategic decisions.
  • Worked across diverse cultures and geographies.
  • Self-driven and ability to motivate a fast-paced team.
  • Pan Africa multi-cultural experience is advantageous.
