Description:
Makerere University Hospital, supported by Wellcome Leap, is implementing the “Stillbirth in High Burden Settings: Ample Room for Improvement Using Biomarkers and Ultrasound Technologies” (iTECH) project. The project aims to develop clinical tools to manage high-risk pregnancies and reduce stillbirths in Uganda and globally. The research assistant will collect and process research data and abstract patient-level data from records using an electronic data collection tool.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in protocol and SOP trainings
- Engage in study site entry visits and participant management
- Participate in training on study-specific and ethical procedures
- Manage study participant schedules and reminders
- Guide and prepare participants for study procedures and tests
- Ensure fair and equal treatment of participants
- Act as liaison between research team and participants
- Work with healthcare workers to achieve project objectives
- Perform QA/QC on consent forms and data tools
- Identify appropriate patient registers for data collection
- Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Diploma in any health-related field from a recognized institution
- Experience in collecting health research data and managing health records
- Training in Good Clinical Practice and Human Subjects Protection Research
- Experience in research methods and data management
- Basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets)
- Good interpersonal and data collection skills
- Ability to evaluate, verify, and edit research data with attention to detail
- Team player with excellent communication skills
- Ability to work long hours
- Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, writing)
- Ability to speak Luganda
