UGAFODE Microfinance Limited (MDI) is a registered financial institution in Uganda and is adherent to the Central Bank’s regulations and guidelines and was founded in 1994 to provide quality microfinance services.

 

Job Summary:   Responsible for enabling UGAFODE attain its strategic objectives by providing the leadership in the development, review and implementation of the business growth strategy for both the assets & liabilities, ensuring effective Branch Supervision & overall portfolio management i.e. growth and quality in line with UGAFODE’s Operational plans.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Business Growth Strategy: responsible for development, reviews, seeking approval and overall execution of UGAFODE’s business growth strategy driving both Assets and liabilities across branch network based on the agreed strategic direction of the institution as well as annual operating plan.
  • Portfolio management: Leads the team in the effective management of the portfolio (growth and quality) as well as ensuring risk management through committee meetings to provide meaningful input into risk appetite discussions, portfolio management strategies as well as detecting and evaluating shifts or changes in key risk parameters and the effects of such changes on both portfolios and relationships of the institution.
  • Effective Branch Supervision: Supervises and manages all UGAFODE branch distribution network as revenue growth channels for both assets & liabilities and ensures such entities consistently perform as planned within compliance to both regulatory and risk perspectives of the institution.
  • Process Efficiency and Improvement: Conducts regular reviews of business generation strategies/policies, process effectiveness and efficiency, and provides feedback and recommendations to UGAFODE management on a regular basis.
  • Compliance: Ensures compliance with internal business growth policies and Central Bank guidelines and regulations on prudential norms failure of which UGAFODE can incur losses as a result of penalties arising thereof.
  • Reporting on business strategy: Prepares, reviews and submits portfolio and other financial analysis reports on business growth (assets & liabilities) and other trends to key stakeholders including- Management, Board and Central Bank and as may be required.
  • Budget/Cost Management: Oversees the Business Generation function Budget and ensures cost saving, value for money, enforcement of budgetary controls and accountability for expenditure in line with UGAFODE set standards and annual operating plans.
  • Team Management and Leadership: takes full responsibility for performance management of all direct reports, focusing on all aspects of sound people management e.g. Recruitment, Development, Performance Management, Remuneration and Rewards, Career path planning, On-the-job training, coaching & mentoring and Employee engagement.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of Bachelors in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics or any other business related subject. MBA is preferable. Any Credit Certification courses are desirable.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in any Financial Institution with at least 3 of those years as Regional Manager.
  • Business Acumen

  • Solution-focused, flexible thinker with a strong “can do” attitude
  • Able to influence, negotiate and engage diversity
  • Strong networking and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Highly analytical and attentive to detail combined with an ability to think laterally and holistically
  • Financial Risk Analysis skills.
  • Communication skills (both oral and written)
