Key Duties and Responsibilities:   Under the direct supervision of the Senior Economic Advisor, and the Economics Specialist, the Digital and Innovation Fellow provide support in the following areas:

AI and Digital Innovation Support

  • Assist in the integration of AI tools (e.g., Large Learning Models (LLMs), chatbots) into UBOS systems under the guidance of USPC and UBOS.
  • Support data cleaning, analysis, and visualization for SDG monitoring using tools like Stata, Python, R, or PowerBI.
  • Contribute to the development and testing of a proof-of-concept AI chatbot for UBOS’s Open Data Portal.

Capacity Building and Training

  • Help organize and co-facilitate training sessions for UBOS staff on AI applications, data visualization, and statistical tools.
  • Document training outcomes and user feedback for iterative improvements.

Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing

  • Act as a liaison between UBOS, UNDP Uganda, and USPC for day-to-day coordination.
  • Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and knowledge products to share project progress and lessons learned.

Administrative and Logistical Support

  • Support project management tasks, including scheduling meetings, tracking deliverables, and maintaining documentation.

Languages

  • English, Level: Fluent, Required

Required education level

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent in Computer science or Data Science or Mathematics or Statistics, IT, or a related field.
  • A Masters degree in any of these fields will be an added advantage.
  • Certifications in AI, data analytics, or cloud computing (e.g., AWS, Azure) are an advantage.

Skills and experience

  • Familiarity in data analysis, digital innovation, or AI.
  • Familiarity with programming (Stata, Python/R), data visualization tools (PowerBI/Tableau), and open-source AI frameworks.
  • Exposure to statistical systems or SDG monitoring is desirable.
  • Basic understanding of AI/Machine Learning (ML) concepts and data engineering.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in multicultural teams and adapt to dynamic environments.
