About Organisation:

The Uganda National Institute for Teacher Education (UNITE) was created on 5th July 2024 by Statutory Instrument No. 53 of 2024, under the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act (UOTIA), Cap. 262, as an Other Degree Awarding Institution (ODAI). UNITE is a multi-campus institution with campuses in Kabale, Kaliro, Mubende, Muni, and Unyama, and its headquarters located in Kira Municipality (former Shimoni Core PTC). The institute is fully accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).

 

Job Summary: To provide technical leadership in development and implementation of appropriate procedures relating to the creation, storage, retrieval, archiving and/or disposal of Institute documents.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical support and advice on records management consistent with Institute policies and Records Management Standards.
  • Establishes and maintains the retention and disposal schedules.
  • Develops and coordinates records staff development programs.
  • Enforces the code of ethics for confidentiality and professional practice for the handling of records.
  • Develop policies and guidelines for a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Initiates and manages the changeover from paper to electronic records management systems
  • Designs and develops filing systems, classification schemes and undertake records surveys.
  • Supervises the management of electronic and/or paper-based information to preserve Institute memory and legacy.
  • Appraises performance of staff of the Unit.

  • Filing systems and classification schemes designed and developed; and records surveys undertaken.
  • Management of electronic and/or paper-based information supervised.
  • Staff supervised and appraised.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • An honor’s Bachelor’s degree in either Library and information management, records and archives management or information science from a recognized University or institution Work Experience
  • A three (3) years working experience as a records officer in government or an equivalent level from a reputable organization.
