The company has 25 years of experience in the production and commercialization of high-quality agricultural seed such as cereals and pulses, as well as the distributor of East West International hybrid vegetables seeds. NASECO has its head office in Kampala and production plant in Nalweyo Kakumiro district.
Job Summary: To undertake research field activities in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, quality guidelines and best agronomic practices.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise field activities.
- Support timely land preparation and planting activities
- Survey the fields and check for weeds, insects and diseases
- Measure correct quantities of the appropriate chemicals for spraying and supervise proper spraying of the trials and nursery fields according to the spraying program.
- Carry out spot weeding, thinning, top dressing and pollination.
- Prepare for pollination activities by assembling the tools to be used in the field for Shoot capping, Pollen bagging, Silks cutting and Pollination.
- Supervise harvesting in accordance with internal quality guidelines.
- Carry out data collection with accuracy at all stages from germination to harvesting for both the qualitative and quantitative traits in nurseries and trials to aid the evaluation of performance of new high hybrids.
- Carry out packaging activities in an orderly and organized manner;
- Seasonal workers supervision
- Observe how work is done and intervene where necessary to ensure work is done according to SOPs.
- Maintain storage facilities in good order; fumigation of the storage facility, arranging of the seed packages in the store and Chemical application on the seeds against the insecticides and rodents
- Any other duties allocated by the supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Diploma in Agriculture with a bias in Crop science.
- Professional Experience: One year field experience in Agronomy practice.
- Competencies: Knowledge and understanding good agronomic practices; Data collection skills; Excellent interpersonal communication and reporting skills; Computer skills in MS Word and MS Excel.
