Job Summary:

The prime function of this role is:

  • To ensure compliance for all safety standards and site(s)/ market regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the safety agenda, planning and developing performance, standards, frameworks and capabilities to meet the market / site(s) scorecard targets, aligned with Diageo’s Strategy.
  • Drive and embed risk prevention programs – The significance of this role is important as an in-market lead implementing the wider company Safety strategy, policy and programs that promote Safety Excellence, which is identified as a business priority.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for Safety management – executing the Diageo OPEX standards, blue print strategy, code of conduct and Safety policy at market/site.
  • Provide Safety technical leadership and coaching to operational teams on meeting Diageo standards and targets.
  • Set market / site(s) safety targets, and develop plans to meet those targets and oversee their delivery.
  • Ensure that any improvements implemented are standardized and sustained within operational teams.
  • Be disciplined about the importance of adhering to Safety standards across the site. Expect others to be disciplined and never walk past anything, which does not meet the standard.
  • Audit, analyze and report Safety performance to internal and external stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
  • Carry out impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce the organization’s Safety risks and financial costs; managing risk and contingency management.
  • Operate as part of an integrated management team, managing expectations and escalating issues as required.
  • Engage with the Daily Operational Review meetings to provide expert analysis of performance and improvement opportunities.
  • Develops and implement Safety management systems to continually improve our delivery of Safety Excellence.
  • As necessary, liaise with relevant bodies such as local authorities, public bodies and competent bodies. Write Safety reports, assuming the Safety lead responsibility for the market / site(s).
  • On call to respond to emergencies at the plant
  • Guarantees that all work is performed in accordance with approved manuals, internal policies and procedures, contract documents, and good engineering practices
  • Involved in setting standards and creating procedures which keep employees and visitors safe.
  • Has expertise in applicable legislation and develop processes and procedures which ensure compliance, alongside efficient recording and reporting of management information to help further improvements.

Excellence in Supply Chain:

  • Upholds Standards – The role holder will be expected to embrace the OPEX standards, apply them effectively in their role and adhere to them at all times.
  • Performance Management – The role holder will understand the importance of KPIs in driving performance; know how to supervise their targets and correct as appropriate.
  • Continuous Improvement – the role holder will be expected to be flexible and embrace change, continually looking for ways to improve everything they do. They will use various continuous improvement tools and techniques to solve problems. They will also be expected to own the relationship with the following key external stakeholders: suppliers, contractors, external audit, external governmental agencies, key internal stakeholders

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Experience of formalized Safety Management principles and processes.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in an operational environment with previously held responsibility for Safety.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, Engineering or related discipline preferred
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g NEBOSH) an added advantage
  • Overall, good knowledge of Safety legislation and standards.
  • Advanced competency in Diageo Safety capability framework for Awareness of audit techniques and methodology
  • Awareness of BCP and risk management techniques
  • Influencing and leadership skills
