Welthungerhilfe (WHH), founded in 1962, is one of Germany’s largest non-governmental aid and development agencies. We have worked in Uganda since 1986, in partnership with the Government of Uganda, national and local NGOs, jointly improving the livelihoods of the most vulnerable population in rural areas through interventions that increase their Food and Nutrition Security, improve sustainable access to WASH services, innovative youth skilling and women’s empowerment programs in five regions of Uganda.

WHH, in partnership with a donor ENABEL, is implementing a youth-focused skilling and empowerment project in West Nile, with activities centered at the Youth Skilling Centre in Siripi, Terego District and other parts of West Nile region. As part of this initiative, we have an exciting opportunity for a committed and motivated individual to join our mission of empowering vulnerable youth and contributing to sustainable livelihoods as:

 

Job Summary:   To equip vulnerable youth, especially young women from refugee and host communities with the foundational life skills and psychosocial support they need to achieve personal growth, build confidence and pursue sustainable livelihoods or entrepreneurial opportunities. The role aims to foster self-awareness, resilience and an entrepreneurial mindset through both group training and individualized coaching, ultimately empowering youth to overcome barriers and reach their full potential.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coaching & Personal Development: Deliver one-on-one and group coaching sessions focused on mindset, self-confidence, goal setting, and life skills. Support youth in identifying strengths and setting realistic personal and entrepreneurial goals. Conduct follow-ups to track progress.
  • Mentoring Program: Identify, train, and support mentors. Organize motivational talks to inspire and empower participants.
  • Psychosocial Support: Provide basic psychosocial first aid and referrals to mental health services as needed. Foster a safe, inclusive space for personal growth.
  • Capacity Building: Facilitate soft skills training (communication, leadership, decision-making, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence). Guide youth in creating personal development plans aligned with career or business goals.
  • Gender & Inclusion: Ensure gender equity and inclusion of persons with disabilities and refugees. Address gender barriers and train partners on inclusive practices and gender-transformative approaches.
  • Collaboration & Referrals: Coordinate with partners and government services to support referrals for vocational training, GBV services, and mental health. Work closely with trainers and social workers for integrated support.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Maintain confidential records, track coaching progress, and contribute to project reporting with success stories and key insights.

Additional Contributions:

  • Participate in strategic planning and contribute to overall program development.
  • Carry out any other related duties as assigned by management.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, community development, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in life coaching, youth mentorship, or psychosocial support, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
  • Certification in Coaching, Mentorship or related training is an added advantage.
  • Experience in Life Skills Coaching in a youth skills development or business enterprise is an added advantage.
  • Experience working with refugees, youth, and/or women in vulnerable settings is highly desirable.
  • Background in gender transformative approaches an added advantage

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and build trust with youth.
  • Strong facilitation, mentoring, and training abilities.
  • Team player and person of integrity.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English required.
  • Knowledge of Lugbara Madi, Kakwa, Alur and/or other local languages in West Nile, and those spoken among refugees, is a plus.
