About Organisation:

Global Alliance on Health and Pollution is a collaborative body of more than 60 members and dozens of observers that advocates for resources and solutions to pollution problems. GAHP was formed because international and national level actors/ agencies recognize that a collaborative, multi-stakeholder, multi-sectoral approach is critical to dealing with the global pollution crisis and resulting health and economic impacts. GAHP aims to reduce death and illness caused by all forms of toxic pollution, including air, water, soil, and chemical wastes, especially in low and middle-income countries. These efforts will contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals related to pollution, particularly on Health (Targets 3.4 and 3.9).

Job Summary: GAHP seeks a motivated, strategic, and creative Communication Officer to lead external communications related to the Health and Pollution Action Planning program in Uganda. The Officer will ensure that the findings, recommendations, and outcomes of the project are effectively communicated to GAHP, national and international stakeholders, the media, development partners, and the general public through targeted storytelling, press, and digital media content. This is a full-time, remote-based position with some travel required.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Communication and Content Development (60%)

  • Design and implement a communication plan to support the program in Uganda, in coordination with the GAHP global communications team.
  • Draft press releases, blogs, factsheets, social media posts, and newsletters to highlight project findings, milestones, and impact stories.
  • Support the development of communication products for policy dissemination events and donor outreach.
  • Translate technical reports into accessible content for general and policy audiences.
  • Manage communication outputs aligned with GEDSI-sensitive messaging.

Media and Stakeholder Engagement (25%)

  • Liaise with Ugandan media to secure coverage of GAHP activities.
  • Identify opportunities for amplifying GAHP’s work in national and regional media.
  • Support the planning of stakeholder briefings and public events in Uganda.
  • Assist in preparing key messages and presentation materials for project spokespersons.

Internal Coordination and Reporting (15%)

  • Maintain close communication with the GAHP Program Manager, the Uganda National Coordinator, and the GEDSI Expert.
  • Assist the GAHP Communication Manager in related campaigns and provide materials as requested.
  • Track communication deliverables and deadlines; report progress to Project Manager.
  • Contribute to donor reports and internal updates.
  • Provide editorial support for project outputs when needed.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, international relations, public health, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in communications, media relations, or public affairs, preferably with an NGO or international development agency.
  • Strong storytelling, writing, and editing skills (writing sample required).
  • Experience translating technical content into engaging materials.
  • Familiarity with environment, pollution, health, or GEDSI topics is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and communications platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Canva, social media scheduling tools).
  • Knowledge of Uganda’s media and development landscape is a strong plus.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote work setting.
  • Fluent in English; knowledge of local languages is a plus.

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
