Job Summary: We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Project Officer to join our team, focusing on improving the health and well-being of farmers in rural communities. As a Project Officer, you will be responsible for implementing and managing health projects tailored to the specific needs of farmers, promoting preventive healthcare practices, and facilitating access to healthcare services. Your role will be instrumental in addressing health disparities, promoting health education, and fostering a culture of well-being among farming households.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Planning and Development:

  • Work closely with the Program Manager to conceptualise, plan, and develop projects aligned with organisational goals and community needs in a district or designated area.
  • Conduct thorough research to identify priority health issues, emerging trends, and best practices for intervention strategies.
  • Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets, ensuring adherence to funding requirements and deadlines.

Project Implementation and Coordination:

  • Lead the execution of projects, overseeing all aspects of implementation to ensure timely and high-quality delivery.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, external partners and volunteers to allocate resources effectively and maximise project impact.
  • Provide guidance and support to Community Engagement Agents (CEA) and volunteers, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.

Contact with Healthcare and 3rd Party Service Providers:

  • Liaise with healthcare and 3rd party service providers to provide comprehensive healthcare services for farming households in a designated area.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:

  • Establish monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track the progress and impact of health projects.
  • Collect and analyse data on health indicators, program activities, and participant feedback to assess effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations on project outcomes, challenges, and lessons learned for internal and external stakeholders.

Community Engagement and Capacity Building:

  • Build strong relationships with community members, local organisations, and government agencies to foster trust, collaboration, and ownership of project initiatives.
  • Organise community meetings, workshops, and awareness campaigns to promote health education, behaviour change, and preventive measures.
  • Provide training and capacity-building support to community health workers, volunteers, and other stakeholders involved in project activities.

Advocacy and Networking:

  • Represent the organisation in relevant forums, conferences, and advocacy campaigns related to public health and community development.
  • Advocate for policy changes and resource mobilisation efforts to address systemic barriers and improve access to healthcare services.
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships with donors, NGOs, academic institutions, and other stakeholders to leverage resources and expertise for collective impact.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Project Management, Public Health, Agriculture, Community Development or related field
  • Proven experience (3+ years) in community project management with a successful track record of planning and implementing community development projects.
  • Proficient in advanced computer applications with strong report writing skills.
  • Strong understanding of public health principles, health promotion, and behaviour change theories.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and facilitate collaborative decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusivity, and cultural sensitivity in all aspects of project work.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, Runyankole/Rukiga and Luganda is an added advantage.
  • The applicant must know how to ride a motorbike and possess a valid motorbike licence.
