Project Officer – Education – UNICEF World Vision Uganda

World Vision Uganda (WVU) is a Christian relief, development and advocacy non-government organisation dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. We currently work in 43 districts and have 48 Area Programmes implementing projects in health & nutrition, water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH), livelihoods & resilience, education and child protection. World Vision (WV) is committed to the protection of children and adult beneficiaries from exploitation and abuse and will not employ people whose background is not suitable for working with these beneficiaries. Due to expansion in scope of our programmes, we are now seeking for a qualified and passionate individual willing to share in our vision and join the team in the following role.

Purpose of the position:
To contribute to achieving equitable access and quality education planning, implementing and monitoring the Education Quality Improvement Program activities through approaches that improve enrolment, retention, completion, literacy, numeracy and life skills. The position will support direct project activity implementation and roll out of best practices and models in a manner that promotes ownership and sustainability

Key Outputs/Responsibilities.
1. Project planning and implementation
2. Plan and coordinate all sub county and district-based project activities in consultation with the NRC, the CCT and the DEO
3. Plan and implement school-based project activities.
Develop activity concepts in line with the detailed annual operation plan, the budget and UNICEF log frame
5. Organize meetings and workshops for teachers and field facilitators to implement education project activities and models
6. Track and manage activity budgets and ensure timely and cost-effective project implementation.
7. Produce timely, accurate, compliant and quality reports
8. Participant in project management meetings and reflection forums
Support and participate in district education Advocacy initiatives
10. Conduct and facilitate community awareness raising and community mobilization
11. Ensure cross cutting themes are mainstreamed in education activities project.
12. Technical support and training
13. In liaison with the CCT and the DEO, conduct a capacity needs assessment for teachers and literacy
14. Develop a capacity building plan for teachers
15. Mobilization and conducting trainings to build capacities on supporting enrolment, retention and completion
16. Provide mentoring and coaching to teachers through support supervision visits
Build Local level Peer mentoring mechanism for teachers, School management committees and literacy
18. Identify technical experts to train district and community groups
19. Liaise with the NRC and CCT for technical support on capacity building

Partnership and networking
1. Identify and build linkages, relations, collaborations and networks with partners and other stakeholders in implementation at the Sub County and District level
2. Support development of school improvement plans and monitor their implementation
3. Participation in sub county coordination meetings to influence decisions on education
4. Organize periodic partner and stakeholder monitoring visits
5. Organize teachers and literacy fora to promote learning
Participate and represent WVU in key technical working forums at the sub county and the district
7. Conduct advocacy campaigns for education in general and girl child education in particular
8. Documentation and Reporting
9. Maintain a data bank for schools in the refugees and host communities, head teachers, enrolment, drop out, teachers, teachers trained in different models
10. Conduct school mapping and peer group mapping and document for project activities
11. Effectively document all information related to girl child enrolment trends in targeted school
Responsible for capturing individual children attendance, performance and behavior indicators related to drop out of children
13. Document good practices and project success stories and share them
14. Support supervision and Mentoring
15. Conduct support supervision and mentoring sessions for teachers
16. Facilitate formation of children network/peer networks at school and sub county level
17. Support schools to have classroom print rich materials,
18. Maintain a records in Schools and monitor attendance and performance during school visits
19. Hold reflection meetings on key education program activities and indicators

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
1. The applicant for the World Vision Project Officer Education job must hold a degree in education or any other degree but with a diploma in education.
2. At least two years’ experience in education and or community work.
3. Must have classroom teaching experience of not less than 3 years
4. Experience in the education sector programming in a reputable organization is an added advantage
Computer knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Vision Excel, Word, PowerPoint,
6. Written and Oral Communication skills are essential, and the incumbent must be a team player, who is able to work successfully in a multicultural environment.
7. A high level of integrity is required
8. Experience of working in the field (communities)
9. Knowledge of project management and project cycles

19. Ability to maintain performance expectations in diverse cultural contexts, psychological stressful environments and physical hardship conditions with limited resources
20. Ability to cope up and deal with stress and work under stressful work conditions
21. Commitment to World Vision Core Values, mission and Vision Statements
22. Ability to speak English and common local languages spoken
23. Ability to ride motorcycle with valid riding permit is a MUST
