Job Summary: The Law Clerk will be responsible for and maintaining records. He/she will also perform other administrative or clerical duties, such as making copies, ordering supplies and handling mail, filing court documents, serving court documents, following up on court matters, fixing court dates, deal with Uganda Registration Services Bureau and lands process among others.
He/she will locate and retrieve requested files, as well as prepare legal document indices, file folders and labels. They will be responsible for keeping files up-to-date.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
To file and serve correspondences, court process and other documents effectively and in a timely manner.
To file pleadings, petitions and other documents relevant to court actions;
To prepare affidavits, hearing notices and other court documents, and maintain a register of files and documents.
To make the necessary follow ups with courts of law to secure hearing dates, fix cases etc.
To attend to processes at the various lands registries.
To attend to the processes at URSB.
To conduct due diligences with the relevant bodies e.g. lands registries, courts, URSB etc.
To effectively manage the firm’s record keeping and document filing systems.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant must hold a Diploma in Legal Practice
Certificate of Approval as an accredited court process server.
Working experience of at least 2 years in a busy law firm.
Be a person of high morals and integrity
Have good problem-solving skills
Be computer literate; must be conversant with the ECCMIS and OBRS filing systems.
Have good communication skills
Be organised and a good record keeper
Be time conscious
Be able to work well with others
Have good attention to detail
Be result oriented.
