Claims Officer Icea Lion Uganda

In order to serve our growing client base, The Company is seeking a qualified and experienced, passionate, dynamic and innovative individual willing to share in our vision and join the team in the role of Claims Officer in our Claims Department.

Key Outputs/Responsibilities
• Registering new claims in consultation with relevant underwriting department to ascertain policy cover and application.
• Studying claims documents to ensure the claim is fully and accurately documented and call for outstanding documents to enable claim processing.
• Notifying reinsurers / co-insurers of new claims; keeping them updated on claim progress and forward copy documents for their records.
• Interpreting insurance policies and contracts, establishing and adjusting/updating reserves in accordance with company policies and guidelines.
• Evaluating each claim assigned and conducting investigations where necessary.
• Developing plans for investigation of claims and gather all necessary documents and information.
• Appointing loss Adjusters /Investigators when necessary.
• Communicating with adjusters, claimants, the insured, and other relevant parties to determine liability and coverage.
• Initiating recovery and follow up action against third parties, reinsurers, and maintaining an up to date recovery register/diary system.
• Maintaining proper files for claims by collecting and organizing all relevant documents and set up new claims using the footprint system.
• Responding to correspondence and enquiries regarding policy coverage or claims and provide information as requested, and making telephone calls to obtain or supply information as necessary.
• Preparing claims reports such as Commissioner of Insurance monthly reports, new claim register reports, claim experience report, IRA reports etc.
• Issuing demand letter and follow up recovery/refund excess as appropriate
• Any other duty assigned from time to time.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
• A Bachelor’s degree in Business related course
• Professional Qualifications or pursuit of the same is an advantage
• Analytical Skill and keen in details
• Excellent Interpersonal, organizational, time management and Communication skills
• Good knowledge in insurance, specifically claims handling process
• Highest level of personal and professional integrity
• Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced work environment
• Three to four (3 -4) years relevant working experience in a similar role
