The key purpose of this role is to contribute to the efficient and profitable operation of the business through the provision planning and logistics services
Duties and Responsibilities include:
• Compile the barley purchase plan through tactical planning and distribution of barley of agreed quality to malting units to ensure uninterrupted production;
• Co-ordinate Malt supply to customers and provide an effective and efficient information to the
Leadership team regarding available barley and malt stocks in order to enhance the quality of future capacity and operational decisions.
• Manage the development of monthly tactical, budget and PF plans to drive supply chain and production optimization.
Identify shortfall of locally produced barley and provide Logistics and Procurement functional heads with an overview of imported barley needs and scheduling in order to plan and order imported barley to meet customer and production requirements, based on a 50/3-malt philosophy
• Determine, plan and manage distribution of imported barley to the malting plant, minimizing handling and transport
• Direct and monitor discharge of imported barley and ensure sound working relationships between relevant parties to minimize delays and resultant ship and rail demurrage costs
• Liaise and interact with Scheduling team regarding the malt types that will be available on a rolling horizon of at least 6 months
• Optimize storage capacity levels according to cost management and safety stock strategies
• Establish and manage performance standards by third party suppliers against agreed standards
Profile:
• A first degree in commercial or related discipline
• 4 Years’ experience preferably in logistics. FMCG experience will be an added advantage
• In-depth knowledge of local barley production
• Extensive knowledge of barley and malting complexities: varieties, origins, dormancy and blending ratios
• Extensive knowledge of transport, storage and distribution methods and principles
• Computer literacy with Proficiency in excel
• Conceptual ability and commercial Acumen
• Customer orientation and analytical skills
• Planning and organizing
• Leadership ability
