National Association for Women’s Action in Development (NAWAD) is a voluntary non-governmental women’s organization that was initiated by a group of women in 2009 and was legally registered in 2010. NAWAD is committed to promote a stable and peaceful society where women and girls access equal rights in the different spheres of life. The organization focuses on the family and the crucial role women play in their families, their communities and the development of Uganda as a nation. The main goal of the organization is to promote the rights of women and girls especially in relation to sustainable natural resource management and climate change social and economic right and governance, peace and security.

 

Job Summary:   The Finance Assistant will support the Finance and Administration Manager (FAM) to perform routine and basic accounting work involving carrying out initial Data entry, sorting documents, filing and keeping custody of accounting and financial transaction records and accountability.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To prepare vouchers according to payment requests and ensure that all supporting documents are attached and required approvals are in place.
  • To assign invoice numbers to transactions for further processing.
  • To record and capture data on the system.
  • To provide information on Electronic Funds Transfer and, execute payments to beneficiaries.
  • To prepare payment advice forms, compile returns and prepare monthly accountability.
  • To receive, sort, file accountability returns and keep custody of accounting documents.
  • Assist in posting entries to produce correct balances to each account and to every control account.
  • Assist in preparing and inputting journal entries into the project accounting system ·
  • Assist in reconciling financial transactions, including invoices, expense reports and purchase orders.
  • Assist in supporting the auditing process by providing the necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Assist in supporting bulk pay processes.
  • Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree with Honors in Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration, Finance with a bias in accounting.
  • Three years of previous accounting experience·
  • Previously worked on a USAID project is an added advantage.
  • Must be proficient in IT, computer use and quick books.
  • Professional understanding of technical operations and functions ·
  • High moral character and integrity,
  • Ability to work under pressure and deadlines,
  • Ability to work with or without supervision,
  • Accuracy, Team player and Good organizational skills
