Food for the Hungry (FH/U) is a Christian international relief and development organization that has been working in Uganda since 1989. FH is currently operating programs in Asia, Latin America and Africa with support offices in the UK, Canada, Switzerland, Sweden, United States of America and Japan. FH’s primary goal is to end all forms of poverty World-wide. In Uganda, FH is operational in the Districts of Adjumani, Kitgum, Lamwo, Kole, Kween, Mbale, Namutumba and Amudat Districts implementing programs in four main sectors of Education; Food Security and Livelihoods; Health/Nutrition and Disaster Risk Reduction; with the Head office located in Kampala.

 

Job Summary:  Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Program Delivery Manager (PDM),  this role will be part of the Extended Management Team (EMT) and will plan, organize, coordinate and lead project implementation at the area program. Will ensure projects stay on time, scope, and budget, promote practice of performance, accountability, and risk management in line with in line with FH’s “Resilience & Flourishing Through Systems Transformation (RFTS) program model. Co-lead technical design of technical projects with support from the technical program specialists in line with FH’s program design guidelines. Co-Lead together with the Sponsorship relations coordinator community awareness, relationship building with community leaders, churches and families. Consequently, overseeing the value chain and business development, health and nutrition, WASH projects with tested experience in implementing Agro ecology. Support the ecosystem approach of accountability for all functional departments of finance, procurement, admin, programs, HR and business development.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in agricultural sciences, agri-business development, animal and livestock development, environment, natural resource management and energy, rural development, business administration and economics
  • Master’s degree in agri-business development, Agricultural Economics, agricultural sciences, project management, environment, energy and resilience is an added advantage.
  • Experience as a program or project manager in related projects is an added advantage.
  • Experience in multisector programing with focus on value chain and business development, health and Nutrition and WASH
  • Experience of at least 5 years in project development, management and capacity development within the Agriculture Sector. Experience working in both public and private sector would be an asset.
  • Demonstrable experience in value chain/market system analysis and design, for normative and field-support work.
  • Demonstrable experience in engaging with a variety of stakeholders in a value chain/market system.
  • Demonstrable capacity to work under stringent time pressure and to prioritize tasks.
  • Compliance, financial management experience. Experience with working with private and institutional donors.
  • Non-profit ministry experience is a plus. Program leadership experience that includes risk and compliance management, financial, and opportunity development
  • Demonstrable skills in writing well-structured technical, training and reporting documents (English)
  • Vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a Christian commitment to serving the poor and in full agreement with FH’s Christian beliefs expressed in The Heartbeat.
  • Demonstrated computer -operating skills, including proficiency in Google platforms, Microsoft Office products, and virtual technologies such as Skype, google meet and/ or Zoom.
