Position: Project Assistant (4 positions)
Direct Reports to: Project Officers
Closely Works With: Program Department, Communication & IT Department, Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Department, Finance and Administration Department
Scope and Job Location: GARD Kotido Head Office (with fieldwork in Nakapelimoru and Rengen Sub Counties)
Contract Type/Details: Fixed term – 12 months with the possibility of extension subject to availability of funds
Salary and Benefits: Competitive salary and benefits packages
Working Hours: Full-time (40 hrs a week)

About GARD:
Grassroots Alliance for Rural Development (GARD) is a non-profit organization registered with the Uganda NGO Bureau since April 2019. GARD envisions empowered and resilient communities and is committed to fostering socio-economic development in Uganda. Operating in Karamoja, GARD focuses on sustainable livelihoods, youth skilling, gender empowerment, governance, peacebuilding, and institutional strengthening.

Project Background:
GARD has signed an MoU to implement the UNDP/KOICA Building Resilience in Conflict-affected and Fragile Communities of Karamoja (BRICK) project in Kotido district. Funded by UNDP and KOICA, the project aims to promote peace, security, and resilience in Karamoja. It targets three districts and six sub-counties, focusing on socio-economic empowerment and gender-responsive livelihoods.

Position Overview:
Based at GARD Head offices in Kotido, the Project Assistant will primarily work in the Rengen and Nakapelimoru sub-counties under the supervision of Project Officers. Responsibilities include community engagement, beneficiary identification, training facilitation, coordination of interventions, data collection, and reporting.

Qualifications, Skills, Experience, and Attributes:

  • National Diploma in Social Science, Development Studies, Agriculture, or related fields. A degree in relevant fields is advantageous.
  • Minimum two years of experience in food security, livelihoods, governance, or peacebuilding projects.
  • Proficiency in MS Office packages and web conferencing applications.
  • Riding motorcycles in rough terrain and possession of a valid driving permit is preferred.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Ngakarimojong; knowledge of Karamoja context is an asset.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and community outreach skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and able to handle pressure.
  • Commitment to GARD’s values and principles.
