HR Associate Shortlist

PEAS is an international education not-for-profit with the mission to ‘expand access to sustainably delivered, quality secondary education across Africa’.
Since 2008, PEAS has built and operated high-quality quality low-cost not-for-profit secondary schools in close partnership with the government in communities where there is an urgent unmet demand for secondary education. We currently run 30 secondary schools in Uganda and 6 in Zambia serving over 16,000 students.
After a number of rigorous external studies in recent years, we know that our school model works. In Uganda, PEAS students are from the poorest communities and have worse primary school exam results than average. However, once they enrol in a PEAS school they go on to make faster academic progress than their more privileged peers. Importantly, this is achieved at a lower cost per student than in other school types.
We are looking to employ an enthusiastic and driven P&C Intern to assist our P&C department with administrative and P&C-related tasks. The P&C Intern’s responsibilities include updating employee absence records, filing P&C documents, accordingly, initiating background checks on shortlisted candidates, and providing suitable recommendations to improve P&C policies. You should also be able to draft employee communications notifying staff of policy and procedural changes.
To be successful as a P&C Intern, you should keep abreast of the latest developments in Uganda labour legislation to determine how PEAS P&C policies may be affected. Ultimately, an outstanding P&C Intern should be detail-oriented and able to demonstrate excellent administrative and organizational skills.

Roles and Responsibilities
• Updating PEAS Employee databases by inputting new employee contact information and employment details and sharing with staff monthly P&C updates.
• Ensuring Network employee files are up to date with the latest information.
• Screening potential employees’ resumes and application forms to identify suitable candidates to fill company job vacancies.
• Organizing interviews with shortlisted candidates.
• Posting job advertisements to job boards and social media platforms.
• Track progress, priorities, and deadlines of various projects
• Preparing and sending offer and rejection letters or emails to candidates.
• Coordinating new hire orientations.
• Responding to staff inquiries regarding P&C policies, employee benefits, and other P&C-related matters.

Experience & Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or studying toward a degree in Human Resource Management or related field.
• Proven experience working in an office environment.
• Working knowledge of Uganda Labour Laws.
• Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications.
• The ability to work as part of a team.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent administrative and organizational skills.
• Effective communication skills.
• Detail-oriented.
