FHI 360 is the prime implementing partner for the USAID funded Maternal, Child Health & Nutrition (MCHN) Activity FHI 360 is implementing the USAID Maternal Child Health and Nutrition (USAID MCHN) Activity, a five-year program (January 2020 to December 2024) designed and funded by USAID to improve maternal, newborn, child health, and nutrition (MNCH) outcomes in Uganda. The Activity also supports improved delivery of MNCH services in Kampala through strengthening service delivery systems, focusing on the urban poor, in both public and private sectors.

With additional funding from USAID, FHI 360 is supporting implementation of KCCA’s (Kampala City Council Authority) 180-day post EVD (Ebola Virus Disease) Recovery Plan from February 2023 to June 2023 will a broad objective of heightening IPC practices for supporting enhanced surveillance for case identification, notification, and referral capacity for over 2,000 lower-level PFP healthcare providers (HCIIs/clinics and drug shops) during the 180-day recovery period in Kampala City. FHI 360 is therefore seeking for a communication assistant to support filed activities.

Description: FHI 360 is seeking to recruit for a Communications Locum who will support documentation tasks including writing success stories from the field, photography, and videography related tasks with an overall aim of conveying accurate and timely information and achievements about the post EVD recovery plan to the various audiences.

Responsibilities
• Gather information and write short success stories and write ups on EVD activities in the field.
• Write short reports from program activities and share with the Knowledge Management Specialist.
Identify topics for documentation, collect information through interviews and on-the-ground research and observation.
• Ensure that EVD project print and online materials are consistent with donor branding guidelines.
• Monitor relevant media coverage, take photos, and video, and develop a photo and video library on the EVD response and supporting photo/video consent forms.
• Provide all communications support to the EVD team when needed, including planning for and setting up branded promotional materials during field activities.
• Any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

• A basic degree qualification in communication or related field.
• A post-graduate qualification in public health, communication or another relevant field is an advantage.
At least 03 years of experience working with development projects, preferably in the health sector. Experience working with USAID-funded projects is of added advantage.
• Demonstrated experience in carrying out interviews in the field, writing and disseminating a variety of public health work products.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate information to stakeholders at all levels using a variety of communications methods.
• Demonstrated ability to work with teams to produce written products and media, adhering to deadlines, and short turn-around times.
• Excellent English language writing and editing skills required.
• Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and organizational skills.
