Education, Experience, Licenses and Certifications
- Diploma in Comprehensive Nursing is required
- Registration with Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council is required
- Valid practicing license is required
- 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience is required
- Experience working with international NGOs is an added advantage
KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of professional nursing principles, procedures and techniques use in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients
- Knowledge of theories, principles, and techniques of group and individual psychotherapy; symptoms and behaviour patterns of patients with emotional disturbances and mental illness
- Knowledge of medications, including psychotropic drugs, and the control, preparation and administration of medications
SKILLS
- Skilled in applying professional nursing care principles and procedures in the evaluation and treatment of psychiatric patients
- Skilled in developing interpersonal therapeutic relationship with psychiatric patients
- Skilled in assessment and application of appropriate intervention techniques
- Skilled in effectively communicating with a variety of individuals and able to function calmly in situations which require a high degree of sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy
- A good command of both written and spoken English

- Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to professional code of conduct
- Ability to treat all patients and staff with respect, without prejudice
- Ability to provide high quality, ethical, compassionate care that places the needs of the patient first
- Ability to maintain detailed records with high accuracy
- Ability to support MTI Calling and adhere to the MTI Code of Conduct
Physical Conditions
This position requires work at health facilities located in remote areas with very basic living conditions.
