About ERA:

The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) is a statutory body established in accordance with the Electricity Act, 1999 (Chapter 145, Laws of Uganda). The Act empowers ERA to regulate the Generation, Transmission, Sale, Export, Import and Distribution of electrical energy in Uganda.

 

Job Summary:   The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Officer will operate and maintain the ICT systems/infrastructure of the Authority. The incumbent will also provide effective and efficient ICT support services

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

System Administration

  • Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade, application software and computer hardware
  • Install, configure, and manage network servers.
  • Test, perform upgrades and patches to installed operating systems and software
  • Maintain physical security and good order in Data Centre and ICT working environments, ensuring all cabling is tidy and appropriately labelled and any equipment alerts or faults identified in the environment are evaluated and dealt with appropriately.
  • Maintain reliability of the ICT infrastructure (Hardware and Software) by monitoring, running tests, and troubleshooting.
  • Evaluate and recommend new or existing system improvements and/or solutions.
  • Create and maintain system documentation of processes, procedures, plans, and configurations.
  • Maintain ICT inventories including Media Library, Software Assets, Hardware Assets, Communications Lines etc.
  • Preparing specifications of ICT Software and Hardware to be procured.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors to escalate and resolve system issues
  • Administer user accounts, permissions, and access to the LAN and ICT Resources.
  • Implement and monitor backup and recovery of the Authority’s systems in accordance with the approved business continuity plan.
  • Administer and maintain the Authority website
  • Implement and maintain change control procedures ensuring appropriate documentation has been completed and sign off attained.

Network Administration

  • Maintain LAN and WAN systems in accordance with industry standards.
  • Install and configure network equipment to update or fix hardware or software issues.

IT Security

  • Conduct periodic vulnerability assessment and manage threats to ICT assets
  • Analyzing the logs of various systems for initiating preventive mechanisms
  • Ensure the safe disposal/movement of ICT equipment in accordance with ICT Policy
  • Monitor adherence to information security policies and standards.
  • Document and report information security incidents

User Support Service

  • Maintain and use the Service Desk in ensuring all service calls are logged.
  • Investigate and resolve all 1st line support calls including call logging, diagnosis and resolution as defined by ITIL standards.
  • Provide technical & infrastructure support for the ICT environment.
  • Escalate unresolved issues to the next level of support personnel.

Other Duties

  • Carry out any other duties as requested by the line manager or Head of Department.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold an Honour’s Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent from a recognized University.
  • ICT Certifications; ITIL, COBIT, CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate amongst others, will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant/similar working experience in a reputable organization.
  • Good knowledge of scripting languages.
  • Solid understanding of LAN and WAN Networks and excellent troubleshooting skills and hands-on experience with various operating systems.
  • Knowledge of System Security Techniques and Applications.
  • Should be below 35 years of age.
