Job Summary:  The Senior Manager, Credit will provide an efficient and effective credit approval and management process in respect of the allocated portfolio. Develop and maintain co-operative relationships between all stakeholders in the credit value chain, and manage a team of Credit Managers.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and understand complex transactions in order to facilitate an effective risk assessment, thereby gaining an understanding of risk impacts.
  • Analyse credit applications to assess whether the credit risk is in line with the Bank’s Credit Appetite and relative to the profitability of the deal
  • Proactively communicate key risks as they arise
  • Overall management of the portfolio of accounts with appropriate escalation.
  • Making recommendations to Credit Executives regarding portfolio strategies (Country and Industry trends and the strategic implications for managing the credit facilities of clients in those geographies and industries)
  • Proactively develop and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including local regulators and external legal counsel relevant to the business and external regulatory bodies to ensure Standard Bank receives appropriate co-operation when required and that the Group meets and is seen to meet regulatory compliance.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Commerce, Finance, Engineering or a related field
  • A minimum of five to seven years of experience in the banking industry with conceptual and practical knowledge of credit procedures, policies and standards, as well as a thorough understanding of products and facilities that give rise to counterparty credit risk.
  • High level understanding of basel and broader regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Well developed knowledge of financial markets, global economy and appropriate regional geographies in which the portfolio operates
  • Good understanding of accounting (both management and financial accounting) to analyse financial strengths and weaknesses of clients and identify potential risks to credit proposals
  • Understanding and working knowledge of risk system monitoring and its related procedures for analysing the account behavior of clients and identifying trends and shifts in credit risk profiles.
